Afternoon Video: Revisiting Camika Royal's Summer Speech

This is the eight-minute video you may have heard about over the summer but may not have seen, in which TFA '99 alumna Camika Royal urged incoming TFA teachers to be "swift to hear, and slow to speak. It was picked up by Gary Rubinstein and then Diane Ravitch, briefly taken down, then quickly restored: 

 

While some (including those most likely to comment below) have wanted to hear only Royal's admonishment to TFA and its alumni, her remarks also include a call for dramatic improvements to American public education.  Reformers may not have (yet) improved public education at scale, Royal and many others have noted, but they're not responsible for many its long-standing failings, either.
