It's a San Francisco Chronicle cartoon picked up by the Bee, and the Chronicle (which has been consistently, rather mindlessly, pro-reform all the way back to its decade-ago cheerleading for then-hyped, for-profit Edison Schools)printed a number of eloquent letters rebutting the cartoon, and one assailing the critics.
At least here in San Francisco, I don't see how the backlash backfired.
