Books: "Stray Dogs, Saints, and Saviors"

ScreenHunter_36 Aug. 30 12.46My book about the effort to revamp Locke High School is now slated to come out next spring, published by the good folks at Jossey-Bass. The book, currently titled Stray Dogs, Saints, and Saviors, describes how for years distant bureaucrats mistreated and neglected South Central's Locke High School -- treating the community no better than the stray dogs that sometimes sneak onto campus in search of food and affection.  Then in 2007 teachers voted to bring in an upstart charter school organization called Green Dot to try and restore the Locke Saints' past glory. It was a brave and desperate move, and its effects have included both tremendous improvements and excruciating sacrifices.  At times, it has seemed like neither Locke nor Green Dot would be able to withstand the pace of change.  Now going into its third year, the Locke turnaround effort remains one of the most-watched transformation efforts in the country.  I'm proud and fortunate to be able to share the inside story of what's happened.

Love the title!

(Could also double as an album title for a collection of previously unreleased tracks from an early '70s glam rock band.)

I also love the title!!! Exciting.

Are you going to have a blurb from Secretary of Education Rhee or from a pit bull? or have a competition between the two for the honor?

Congratulations, I can't wait.
