Boards: Ed Reporters Serving On School Boards

340x News from longtime Baltimore Sun reporter Mike Bowler is that he's been appointed by the governor of Maryland to the Baltimore County school board. He gets sworn in on Friday.  Bowler covered education for many years, and then worked for the USDE for a time.  He's not the only former education reporter to end up on a school board, however. Former NYT reporter/editor Gene Maeroff is apparently now serving on the Edison, NJ, school board.

What a good prospect - I'd expect such folks will be very likely to ask the next necessary question - not intimdated by jargon or mounds of data. And I hope curious and committed w/out being cynical. Hope they enjoy the opportunity to serve.
