Ed Burns: From Cop To Writer To Geography Teacher

Thewireseason4 Ed Burns has let David Simon do most of the talking about their acclaimed TV show, The Wire, but the New York Times reminds us that it was Burns who worked as a cop -- and a teacher -- and made the show what it was: 

"There is no question that the show was able to open doors to two Baltimore bureaucracies — the police and the schools — only because Mr. Burns was carrying the keys."

It's also interesting to remember that Burns taught (geography, 7 years) after both a career as a cop and the initial success of HBO's show, The Corner.  Read the article for more.
