Events: Education Nation 4.0

Foursecretariesatednation2012So NBC News is doing another Education Nation national summit again this year -- but it's in October now, and seems smaller and different from earlier versions (or maybe it just seems that way since I haven't been paying attention):

"This year’s Summit will include the second annual Student Town Hall, in addition to the fourth annual Teacher Town Hall. All events will be moderated by top NBC News journalists, including “NBC Nightly News” Anchor and Managing Editor Brian Williams, NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw and NBC News Chief Education Correspondent Rehema Ellis."

It's the fouth time they're doing it.  That's four Education Secretaries discussing reform at the 2012 event. Recap of the first three years is here. Press release is below.  Sign up by September 12 if you want to get in. Special prize for predicting more than 5 panel topics/presenters (like Amanda Ripley).

We are pleased to invite you to the 2013 NBC News Education Nation Summit in New York City on Monday, October 7th and Tuesday, October 8th at The New York Public Library’s iconic Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. We look forward to a substantive and dynamic national conversation with leaders fromeducation, business, government, philanthropy and media.

This year, the Summit will focus on “What It Takes” to get a student through public schools and ready to succeed in college, career and beyond.  As in years past, we will welcome some of the biggest names from politics, education, business and entertainment to join the conversation. We will also profile a variety of students from across the country whose individual stories provide a collective snapshot of the challenges facing our public education system, as well as some of the real successes being achieved in meeting those challenges.  In addition, this year’s Summit will feature new opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas among attendees and speakers.

Outside the walls of the Education Nation Summit, we will engage the public in this important conversation by utilizing the strength of top NBC News journalists and the reach of all NBC News platforms – from TODAY, Nightly News and Meet the Press; to msnbc, CNBC and Telemundo; to our digital platforms and social media, local affiliates and owned stations.
