What we need are tests worth teaching to, to ensure that investments taxpayers are making on higher education are well spent on students likely to succeed in college and then to be sufficiently productive after graduating from college to compensate society for the investments made. Therefore I continue to promote the idea of an American Baccalaureate Certificate, which would provide Americans who have earned the certificate with free three-year bachelors' degrees at public universities and polytechnics, just as those who earn the exemplary European Baccalaureate are entitled to do in countries leading in higher education equity and access like Finland and the Netherlands. This will entail a broader curricular approach than we've had under No Child Left Behind, which has too often reduced education in this country to just reading and math.

Well, I honestly have to admit, it won’t be hard to tout one’s own policy compares to Paul Ryan. The GOP pretty much has the idea that things were fine the way they were before the recession.

And the free three-year degree concept is brilliant. I can’t think of a single downside, barring the usual “where does the money come from to pull this off”, the answer of course being to lower college costs in general. Actually, for-profit colleges in general need to die off now. The college I attend, VT Tech, is reasonably priced (under $16K per year), and they put all profits back into the student environment via scholarships and equipment, and it shows. On the other hand, the college my boyfriend attends, UVM, is disturbingly for-profit; despite asking close to $30K per student, some dorms are falling apart. The new president, on the other hand, lives in a house that is undergoing a multi-million renovation - $1.3 million and counting to be exact, far more than the $875k the university approved.
