Thompson: One Teacher's Year-End SIG Exhaustion

image from scholasticadministrator.typepad.comOklahoma Centennial High School's Lynn Green embodies the essential quality for relating to teenagers - honesty.  Mr. Green's humor also is legendary.  Even as students grown at his puns, they praise his dedication. In "I Hit the Wall," Green candidly explains that near the end of the year at a school undergoing transformation, he was "emotionally and physically tapped out.  ...  So I took a Sick Leave day and stayed home."  He slept 12 hours straight, ate a bowl of cereal and then went back to sleep. Mr. Green sat in his reading chair and read for 4 hours.  But, he then went to the library for the student chess club that he sponsors.  After reading some more, the veteran teacher readied himself for rekindling his students' energy and taking advantage of the few remaining class periods.   His post-test lessons sound like they were great.- JT (@drjohnthompson) image via.

I feel bad for the guy. I know how it feels. It’s weird taking a day off these days, but on the other hand, those "mental day offs" are often what you need to refresh.
