Photos: A Circular Discussion About New Orleans
There's a funny and sad impression given off by the way these two photos appeared together in an email sent out by Whitney Tilson from Monday night's screening of The Experiment-- a circle of mostly white college-educated 30+ men talking to each other about how they're saving New Orleans. Then again, the PAA or SOS version of the same meeting would likely be full of college-educated white women, which would be just as annoying (and just as unlikely to produce better results, btw).

The real difference is that the PAA version would be full of people who are veteran deeply involved public school parents, volunteers, advocates and leaders. I don't know who all the dudes above are, but based on the usual lineup of the high priests of ed "reform," they're almost all people who have never set a toe in a public school in their adult lives -- and often in their ENTIRE lives -- except on a staged dog-and-pony show tour. And that's enormously more significant than their gender, race, height, weight or hair color.

We don't actually have a "version of this meeting", Alexander. You ran the link yourself; here's what we look like:

It’s another classic example of the elite thinking they know what’s best for everyone. And I don’t fault them for trying to better the world, but the fact that many such individuals have the gall to act pleased with themselves for accomplishing relatively little is painful to see.
