People: Obama, Duncan Early Childhood Expert Retiring
Last week, Valerie Jarrett's mom Barbara Bowman retired from the Chicago Public Schools after a long career in early childhood education that included co-founding the Erickson Institute and helping expand Head Start nationally.
That's mom on the far left, and Jarrett on the far right. The President sent a hand-written congratulations, as did Arne Duncan, who convinced Bowman to join CPS in 2004.
Read about it here. We should all hope to have such long and successful careers.

Such a brilliant woman. She did so many great things. Modern education wouldn’t have progressed as it has without her actions, and hopefully it can keep progressing for the better.
