That's the percentage of state spending that goes to k12and higher education education, state and federal. Yes, two percent. Via Wonkbooks.


These are incommensurables: that's 39% of total state spending vs. 2% of total federal spending. The actual federal share in any state's education spending is somewhat larger than that of this implied ratio.

It’s a little abhorrent that the federal government, so keen to wax poetic about the need for more of a focus on education, provides so little to the actual cost of running a school system. I'd love to think things will change, but part of me has given up any hope...
