Video: Dan Rather Reports On Finland
adsf
Here's an extended trailer from Dan Rather's hour-long report on the Finnish education system, which I heard about via the indefatigable Larry Ferlazzo.
This looks interesting. However, critical viewers should investigate and compare what goes on in Finnish schools with what goes on in the classrooms of their neighbors in the other Nordic countries, which have many of the same much praised policies and practices and yet get quite different results. Also of interest is that Finnish students are the highest achieving in the European Schools, which have a common curriculum and school culture for all of the 30 or so nationalities attending them. Simple case studies, followed by "Let's do it the Finnish way", while likely to lead to some improvements, are not the best way to proceed in developing the best possible school system for our children.
