NCLB: Does Republican Reauthorization Refusal Help Obama?
No one seems to be buying the White House call for quick reauthorization. House Chairman Kline said he didn't want to rush. An unnamed Senate GOP aide told Politico that Obama's was a nice speech but didn't move things one way or the other. The AP asked around and found even more questions about the 82 percent "Chicken Little" stat from folks like Whitehurst and Spellings. But I'm not sure the White House expected anything different. They don't seem that bothered by the response. Maybe they think they win by pushing for the legislation then slamming Republicans for failing to take action. Which would be true if they hadn't sacrificed a precious slice of their own credibility in the process.

The issues surrounding NCLB require action, bi-partisan action and from my standpoint, enough with the speeches and political posturing, we need to help these young students who are not succeeding. Unfortunately, this issue is becoming so political that no one wants to bend, give in, and is now looking to make their opponents look bad for taking action or not taking action. This is the seedier side of politics, and our elected officials are missing the big picture, and instead focusing on their own agenda. A terrible shame and I sincerely hope that someone will have the courage within the decision making body to lead, as opposed to laying in wait.
