Movies: PS22 Wins The Oscars Awards Ceremony

There was no Waiting For Superman but the kids from PS22 closed the Oscars ceremony last night, doing great with a simple version of a famous movie tune: A heartwarming performance of 'Over the Rainbow'.  A NY Daily News columnist points out that the music teacher could have been lost if he didn't have seniority and tenure (Teachers union should give thanks to PS 22's inspiring music instructor).

The article in the NY Daily News actually attacks seniority and tenure; it doesn't support them.

Bruce:

I concur that this article indeed it does not support tenure and is critical of teachers that rely on seniority and tenure to remain employed. I concur with some of the points made within the article, as no one should be gauranteed a lifetime job, even those who sit on the Supreme Court. The need for ongonig reviews, oversight, training, support, reviews, and evaluations of success within are classrooms, regardless of the grade or platform is essential. I do not see tenure or seniority as being dynamic, or pushing teachers/instructors to go that extra mile, instead, security often promotes mediocrity as really, why should you go the extra mile, when you know you are safe in the fold.

These articles and their reviews, by people such as yourself are an excellent platform to continue the ongoing discussion of reform and who should and must be included.
