OBAMA: Sidwell, Lab School, & The Chicago Reader [updated]

Obama2 Forget all the Cabinet speculation -- what school(s) are the Obama daughters going to go to?

The Times says Georgetown Day or Sidwell Friends (A Family Expected to Balance State Dinners With Sleepovers).

Not to be forgotten:  2 mid-year spots suddenly opening up at the elite University of Chicago Lab School.  Hyde Park, anyone?

Last but not least, here's the cover of this week's edition of the Chicago Reader, which has generated some strong feelings from readers.

UPDATE:  What a coup it would be for Michelle Rhee to get the Obamas to pick a DC Public School.

What about Holton-Arms? Susan Ford went there and I hear it's an amazing school.

If the Obama family selects a DC Public School, won't this whole thing just be a little too West Wing story line?

I go to GDS and I hope he picks it he will not pick either of the all girls schools in the area (Holton-Arms and National Cathedral School). I believe that both SIdwell and GDS would be great choices, but I still hope he picks GDS.

If you want to advocate on behalf of your school, you should be grammatically correct.

I go to Sidwell and the Obama kids will definitely end up there over GDS and NCS.
Sidwell has a great academic program perfect for their bright girls. GO FIGHTING QUAKERS!!!

supposedly now it is between maret, gds, and public charter. michelle was at gds today. sidwell is now ruled out.
but holton or ncs???
they are both extremely elitist and much more conservative that the three previously named.

I am a fifth grade student at The Holton-Arms school. I am also an African American. Our school is wonderful, both academically, socially and politically. After all, in our school election, Senator Obama won all of the electoral votes. Our school is not elitist in any way and I think that it would be a great choice for the Obama girls and anyone else looking for a great school for girls!

Logistics and security play a big part in the decision, as well.
My prediction is that the Obamas will choose Maret.
Beauvoir/NCS are fine schools, no more or less elitist than the others; but has some negatives - first, the recent pedophile teacher issue, and the murder of a teacher by a school security guard she was dating. Also, the campus is in a very public space, located on the grounds of the National Cathedral. Security would be more difficult.
Sidwell would be fine for the older girl, but the younger girl would have to go to the Lower School in Bethesda; it would be much easier to have them on the same campus. So no go on Sidwell. GDS may be even too liberal/lefty for the Obamas - it wouldn't play well with many people that the kids call their teachers by their first names. Seriously. So my vote is for Maret. It's closest to the White House, on an isolated single campus with restricted access, fine academically, with no strong political negatives.

Sidwell. The choice of Roosevelt, Hoover, Nixon, RFK, Clinton, and countless other notables. Why is this even up for debate?
