Murder Epidemic In Chicago Isn't Really School Crime

3754098805114103
Youth violence is a big problem in Chicago, for the second year in a row, including a slew of violent deaths.  Just this past weekend, there was more violence (Teen beaten to death with bat).  Whether or not the violence takes place at school, the press -- and city politicians -- have taken to describing the incidents as deaths of Chicago Public School students.  Of course, pretty much any death of a school-age child fits this description.  At the same time, the political response has focused mostly on the need for gun control -- not gang prevention or on-campus security or anything else.  Schoolpeople in the city know different -- that principals and discipline policies and attendance areas make a real difference, but that not all crime and violence that takes place among kids is school-related.
