Schooling Scribes on Education Beat

Things must be really slow -- or the education beat must be really bad -- for EWA's new "coach" position to make Washington Whispers, US News' venerable gossip and politics page (Schooling Scribes on Education Beat).  They haven't even considered applicants for the job yet, though I'm hoping they pick someone quick and savvy enough to help writers on deadline and not just lecture them on how things used to be in the old days.  The old days are gone, pops.  That journalist you're talking to is on a cell phone in his or her car, and probably is supposed to take pics or video and file web extras along with all the rest.  Of course, experience and qualifications have a place, too.   Just not as big a one as talent and relate-ability.

Hope the coach will help the ed writers understand school budgets, govt funding, testing scores, and other numbers stuff. If they don't understand it, how can they report it, or judge it?
