The Choking Game

choking game.png
The NYT gives a big writeup (Teenager Casts Light on a Shadowy Game) to "the choking game" (also known as The Fainting Game, Airplaning, Dying game, Sleeper Hold, Space Cowboy, Space Monkey, Suffocation Game, Suffocation Roulette according to Wikipedia). It's nothing new, but may be spreading (isn't everything?) via YouTube. Click below for a news video about a San Antonio student who died doing it.

The Choking Game (aka Asphyxia activity) is known by teens and preteens all over this country, Canada and the world and has been for generations and generations. Maybe youve heard of as the Pass Out Game, SpaceMonkey or a list of others. There's a great chance that your child or grandchild, niece or nephew has already heard of it and has tried it or may be enticed to play it. Children as young as 6 years old have explained it to shocked parents. They don't know the deadliness or the dangers of permanent disabling brain damage, they think it's fun, safe and silly. Apparently the sensation is similiar to the rush of hanggliding or skydiving, the dangers lie in naivety of teens and preteens.

My 16 year old son also died from this "game" just over two years ago. As a homeschool mom, we never imagined something like this would even be known, let alone one of our children dying from this. It's a real deadly game - talk to your kids.

Deadly Games Children Play hopes to increase the awareness of parents, teachers, police, community groups and children to the risks that our young people are taking.

Along with the current strategy of teaching our young about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, drugs and unprotected sex, there is another underlined devil, which is the need for some children to experiment. Some of these choices are deadly ones such as suffocation games and huffing (sniffing substances).

This site is constructed in an attempt to help educate parents, children, school officials, law enforcement and medical examiners about this insidious activity which is killing children, frequently in the 10 to 16 year age range though there are instances of children both older and younger who have been injured or died.

Help us save lives by educating our children!
